The short version: I AM a mechanical engineer ;-)
So a little more detail, I have a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Stuttgart in Germany, with specialization in Optics and Thermodynamics. So much about the title of the site. Except that I have been working in the area of optical metrology for more than 10 years now, I had an own startup in the field, developing confocal microscopy systems for industrial applications. As you may have noticed there is a Brazilian phone number on the contact page and yes Brazil is one of my fixed points, except Germany. I got there the first time during my doctoral thesis (comparable PhD), afterwards again with a Humboldt scholarship and some more times.
Besides Optics and project management, or maybe due to Optics, I do a whole lot of programming in a wide variety of languages and for different applications (automation, hardware addressing, algorithm development, some graphic stuff, embedded devices, mainly in C/C++, Python).
